What is Resveratrol?

We all know how challenging it can be to achieve our goals for a healthy lifestyle, whether they include weight loss or improving our diets to live longer, happier lives. The benefits of exercise and a healthy diet are well-known, but is there more we can do, in order to live not only longer, but better? A constellation of diet supplements is available on the market—but one product in particular has been garnering much attention in the media, and with good reason. It’s called resveratrol, and it’s recently been the star of the show on Oprah and 60 Minutes for its amazing anti-aging and health benefits. Although “resveratrol” may be difficult to say 10 times fast (try it!), it’s not difficult to understand how it helps our bodies fight back against the aging process.

Resveratrol is a natural compound that forms in plants as self-defense against environmental stresses like dehydration, nutrient deprivation, and germ invasion by bacteria or fungi. One source of resveratrol is a plant called Japanese knotweed (Asian medicine has known about its benefits to humans for millennia). Another is in the skins of red grapes, and subsequently, in wine. However, in order to match the amount of resveratrol found in one ResV Daily supplement, you’d have to drink more than two dozen bottles of red wine! I can’t even begin to imagine the headache I’d get from that.

Benefits of Resv Supplements

Although drinking large amounts of alcohol is certainly no benefit to anyone’s health, drinking moderate amounts of red wine over the course of one’s lifetime may answer an age-old question: why don’t French women get fat?? Despite diets rich in delicious, saturated fats (pass the Brie!) the French manage to have a much lower incidence of heart disease. Adding a resveratrol supplement like ResV Daily to your diet can help you boost your effectiveness in the battle against obesity and other life-ending illnesses.

Resveratrol, in concentrated form, offers a host of health benefits. Tests have shown that it can aid in the prevention of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and even Alzheimer’s. Resveratrol also helps the body to flush harmful toxins in the colon. Unlike harsh chemical colon cleanse products which can leave you feeling literally drained, resveratrol works with your body to gently sweep out toxins and help you achieve weight loss.

What About Side Effects?

Everyone worries about side-effects when taking a new health product. Resveratrol supplements are available without a prescription, so any reported side effects of resveratrol are thus far anecdotal. Some people have experienced an energy rush, similar to a caffeine buzz, after taking it—perhaps providing some extra energy to hit the gym! Others have experienced insomnia during the first week of use. Of course, if you are concerned about resveratrol drug interactions, talk to your doctor.

Studies & Clinical Trials

In a series of groundbreaking resveratrol studies, the product was discovered to significantly increase the lifespan of small animals. Another clinical experiment demonstrated that mice who were fed a high-fat diet along with resveratrol were 30% less likely to die than the mice who were fed high-fat diets without the benefit of resveratrol. In this same University of Wisconsin resveratrol study, scientists discovered that resveratrol can mimic the effects of a calorie-restricted diet, the most important component of any weight-loss regime. Taking resveratrol may have the same effect as restricting your calories by 20-30%, even if your diet is, shall we say, less than perfect!

Although we’re still waiting for evidence from studies in humans, savvy individuals are not wasting time. Since the health benefits of resveratrol have come to light, the increased sales of this product demonstrate growing excitement about its results.
